Former MTV VJ Mark Goodman takes us back to July 13, 1985 — the day Live Aid rocked the world and rewrote the rules of live television.
From arriving at JFK Stadium before sunrise to going live with no script, no teleprompter, and no clue who might show up, Goodman recounts the chaos, adrenaline, and raw magic that defined the Philly side of the global broadcast.
He shares vivid memories of rubbing shoulders with rock royalty, the surreal moment of seeing Dylan and Richards jamming in a trailer, and the emotion of watching his hometown — and his friends The Hooters — rise to the occasion. “There was no plan,” Goodman says. “Just vibes and instinct. And it worked.”
Forty years later, he still believes: they made a freaking difference.
